The World Heritage Site "Sado Island Gold Mine" developed into a large-scale production system based on traditional handicrafts under the management and operation of the Tokugawa Shogunate, with production organizations suited to the characteristics of the two main mines, the Aikawa Tsuruko Gold and Silver Mine and the Nishimikawa Gold Mine.
In addition, a unique mining culture was born from people who came to the mines from all over Japan as a result of the Shogunate's policies.
The tourist facility "Historic Sado Gold Mine" currently manages and preserves the Aikawa Gold and Silver Mine, the main mine of the World Heritage Site "Sado Island Gold Mine," and opens parts of it to the public for tourism.
